Green Day came up out of the Berkeley punk scene in 1987, three kids with cheap guitars and a lot to say. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool have been at it ever since, and over nearly four decades they've gone from sweaty all-ages clubs to headlining stadiums without ever fully losing the snot and energy that got them started.
The breakthrough was Dookie in 1994, a record that dragged punk back into the mainstream and made bratty, hook-filled anthems like "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around" unavoidable. A decade later they did the near-impossible and topped it with American Idiot, a full-blown punk rock opera that turned political frustration into one of the biggest rock albums of the 2000s. 21st Century Breakdown carried that ambition even further.
What's kept them going is the combination of huge melodies and genuine attitude. The songs are built for shouting along in a crowd, the live shows are chaotic in the best way, and the band has never been shy about saying what it thinks. That's a big part of why generations of fans keep finding them.
Our Green Day t-shirts are officially licensed and printed on quality cotton, with designs spanning the band's logo, classic album artwork and tour imagery, the American Idiot grenade heart very much included.
