Iron Maiden have been flying the flag for British heavy metal since bassist Steve Harris founded the band in London in 1975. Through every lineup change, Harris has stayed the constant, with Bruce Dickinson's operatic, air-raid-siren vocals and the twin-guitar attack anchored by Dave Murray giving Maiden a sound that's galloping, dramatic and instantly recognisable.
Then there's Eddie. The band's skeletal mascot, Eddie the Head, has appeared on every album cover and tour poster since the start, reinvented over and over to suit each record. He's as much a part of Iron Maiden's identity as the music, and a huge reason their artwork is some of the most collectable in all of metal.
The records are the stuff of legend. The Number of the Beast (1982) launched them into the big leagues, Piece of Mind sharpened the attack, and tracks like "Run to the Hills," "The Trooper" and "Fear of the Dark" have been roared back at the band by crowds for decades. Few acts in any genre command the kind of loyalty Maiden's fans bring to every show.
