My Chemical Romance (MCR) formed in Newark, New Jersey in 2001, quickly building a devoted following with their mix of punk, emo, and alternative rock. Vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Iero, and bassist Mikey Way became faces of a generation.
Songs like Welcome to the Black Parade, Helena, I'm Not Okay (I Promise), and Teenagers struck a chord with fans who felt like outsiders. The Black Parade, released in 2006, was a landmark moment, a full theatrical rock concept album that cemented their place in music history.
The band split in 2013, but reunited in 2019 to a wildly enthusiastic reception. The fanbase never really went anywhere, and neither did the music's appeal.
