Ozzy Osbourne has been a fixture in rock and heavy metal for over fifty years, first as the frontman of Black Sabbath and then as one of music's most enduring solo acts. Born in Birmingham in 1948, he helped invent heavy metal and then spent decades proving he could outlast almost everyone.
Black Sabbath's run in the early 70s, across albums like Paranoid and Master of Reality, laid the groundwork for an entire genre. When Ozzy went solo in 1979, he picked up right where they left off. Blizzard of Ozz introduced Crazy Train and Mr. Crowley, and his work with guitarist Randy Rhoads on Diary of a Madman remains some of the finest heavy metal ever recorded.
Songs like Bark at the Moon, No More Tears, and Mama, I'm Coming Home have stayed in rotation for good reason. The Prince of Darkness tag has always suited him, but there's genuine craft behind the theatrics.
